Origin:
Rice germ oil is also known as rice bran oil. Rice germ oil is obtained from the seedlings and silver skins (bran) of Oryza sativa L. (Poaceae) separated by rice extraction (polishing) by CO2 extraction.
Characteristics and substances:
CO2-extracted rice germ oil has a yellowish to greenish color and has a characteristic scent. In addition to a balanced proportion of oleic, linoleic and palmitic acids, rice bran oil contains gamma-oryzanol, tocotrienols, tocopherols and squalene. Gamma oryzanol is used i.a. attributed an antioxidant effect.
Applications:
Very popular cooking oil in Asian cuisine.
